How did the universe 'get' here?
It is either eternal, it spontaneously came from nothing, or an eternal 'being' created it.

Most scientists tend to agree with the Big Bang theory. There was a point at which the universe began. The message from astronomy is that it is expanding, and the message from physics is that it is 'winding down.' So, the universe is not eternal.

One of the cardinal rules of science is that nothing comes from nothing. Science is always looking for a 'cause' to explain an 'effect.'
