of cowardice is "fool-hearty brashness". So you have a
vice called cowardice at one extreme and a vice called brashness
at the other extreme, with the virtue of courage right in the middle.
How about generosity---is it the opposite of
stinginess? No, extravagance would be---giving away more than you
should or more than someone else needs, or giving them more than
is good for them. The two opposite vices are stinginess and extravagance,
with generosity being the virtue in the middle.
