In the Hebrew scriptures, which are focused
on the chosen people, the Jews, we find concern on God's part for
others. The prophet, Jonah, was sent to warn the Ninevites, who
were enemies of Israel, of impending doom unless they repented and
turned to the one true God. In the New Testament, there's an example
of Cornelius, who was a high ranking Roman soldier, a non-Jew, who
believed in and worshipped the God of the Jews, but he didn't know
about the Messiah's coming and the Messiah's payment for sin. Peter
was supernaturally sent to this man to tell him the rest of the
story even though he and the other Jewish Christians in the early
church were prejudiced against the Gentiles, and had to travel some
distance to meet with him.
