C.S. Lewis pointed to the analogy of the "body
of Christ"---and that we are all members. One is an eye, the
another a foot, and another a hand. Every member added enables the
body to do more. If you want to help those outside, he said, you
must add yourself to the body of Christ who alone can help them.
Cutting off a man's fingers would be an odd way of getting him to
do more work.
