Certainly it's true that God expects us and
certainly wants us to be good. The issue is not whether or not it's
good to be good. It's a win-win for us and for God. When we do what
the Bible tells us to do, the way we're supposed to treat our friends,
neighbors, a wife, kids, or even enemies, life goes much better
for everybody. But the question we are dealing with now is more
precise than that---does living a good life have anything to do
with getting us forgiven by God and into Heaven---the answer from
the Bible is an emphatic NO! In the letter that Paul wrote to the
Christians in Ephesus, he said, "For by grace you've been saved
through faith. That's not of yourselves, it's a gift of God. Not
of works, lest anyone should boast."
