In the same way, doubts can come about our faith
in God because we've just received some bad news or because we're
being tempted to do something we want to do, but know we shouldn't---or
because we know that a lot of our friends don't believe the way
we do. In fact, there's a sense in which faith means holding on
to things your reason has once accepted in spite of your changing
moods. Lewis said that unless we learn to do this, we could neither
be a sound Christian or a sound atheist, but just a creature dithering
about with beliefs really dependent on the weather and our state
of digestion.
