Imagine that you go over to your friend's house
and the first thing you see is his son standing on the peak of the
roof, three stories high. He has a Superman cape on and it's obvious
he's about to jump. Obviously you'd be alarmed and you'd call out,
"Tommy, hasn't your father told you never to jump off the roof?"
Now, what if he replied, "Yes, Mr. Smith, but I know my daddy
and I know he'll forgive me." What would you say to him? Would
you try to convince him that the reason he has been forbidden to
jump is precisely because he is loved and that he would hurt
himself.
