What if he never really died?
In other words, maybe he went through this, 'process' and just, kind of, fainted on the cross---then later after he was placed in the tomb and it was cool and he was horizontal---he was revived.

Jesus was whipped with 40 lashes---and they literally ripped the flesh off a person's back. He was so weakened by the beating and the blood loss that he couldn't carry the crossbeam all the way to the crucifixion place. Then, they nailed him to the cross and he hung there for hours---a typical Roman crucifixion. The executioner standing there pronounced him dead.
