How did Jesus 'define'
goodness?
Jesus defined goodness much differently than we do. Early in the
Sermon on the Mount, before he gave the golden rule, he said, "Therefore,
you are to be perfect, as your heavenly father is perfect."
Before that, he told the people that unless their goodness was better
than the goodness of the religious leaders, they wouldn't make it
into the kingdom of Heaven. He then went on and explained why the
religious leaders, do-gooders that they were, didn't qualify either.
