Couldn't the body
have been stolen?
The disciples were frightened to death with the possibility of confrontation
with the authorities. Some of them bragged that they wouldn't betray
Jesus if it came down to a fight, but every one of them did. They
fled---they acted like cowards. If they stole the body and then
went around preaching that Jesus was the Messiah who had risen from
the dead, this means that they knowingly and intentionally brought
persecution on themselves. It's a complete disconnect with everything
we know about them. It simply doesn't make any sense.
