CREATE COMMUNITY

ARE YOU A MEMBER OF A GROUP?
If you are currently part of a small group, that's great. If you are not yet part of a group, let us encourage you to investigate what it's all about---it will give you a good idea of what k:west will be 'founded' on---being a church of small groups.

ADULT SMALL GROUPS FORMING

With the opening of the East Campus this weekend, it's hard to believe that K:west is only a year away from opening! This is going to be a critical year for our team to come together and get ready for the exciting adventure that God has set before us. There will be many ways for our team to grow together throughout the year with a variety of social gatherings, service opportunities and meetings.

The most important thing for each of us to do right now is to get together in community with one another through small groups. The relational impact of small groups is exponential and will help to knit our hearts together as we move forward with K:west. If you are excited about K:west and want to be in fellowship with others who share the same passion, I encourage you to take a look at the list of small groups and pick up the phone to join one.

Inevitably there will be some K:west groups that we don’t have listed. If you have a group that you would like us to list then please email me your information.

This Sunday, Kensington East is expecting over 1,000 people to attend their first service! It’s exciting to think of the impact K:west is going to have on our neighborhoods and community within the year. I hope you are planning to be a part of this movement to the west. Please join us in a small group and get to know others who are on the journey!

Please don’t hesitate to give me a call if you have any questions at 248-207-7777.

GENERAL GROUPS INFORMATION

Brett Eastman, a sort of 'expert' on small gropups and the founder of "Life Together," says that the small group 'movement' has been sweeping across America---and it positioned to change the way we 'do' church.

A group is usually made up of 8 to 12 people who meet regularly to live out God's purposes in their community---based from someone's 'living room'. It provides a place for people to experience biblical community like never before.

This emerging 'revolution' seems to be different in kind from the small group movements in the past. Other waves may have focused more on the felt needs of belonging; people had a need for one another. Of course, that's true today as well. Today's movement is not only about belonging, which is only one of the biblical purposes. It's also about becoming healthy spiritually—an integration of all the five biblical purposes.

Here's another distinctive: The last fifty years of the church in North America was built largely on the teaching gift—the preacher; the next fifty years will be built on the leadership gift—the lay person. That's significant. Before, only "experts" could lead the church; now, ordinary believers can lead us.

This is nothing less than a return to the priesthood of all believers.

With video and DVD technology, teaching now has become transferable; that is, the actual teacher does not have to be live to be effective. A video or DVD of a master teacher can be just as effective. A small group in a living room in New York or Kansas or California can listen to a leading Christian preacher or speaker—and apply God's Word to their life.

Small groups then provide the "pond" for what we call the "lily pad" of leadership development. People go from one lily pad of development to the next. Every member is not only a minister, every member must also be a multiplier.

Every life that has life must give life.

Small groups are not just another program in a suite of church offerings. Small groups are the church—it's the primary way people get transformed—life on life.

Small groups, however, are not the end, they are the means. Lifetogether is a worldwide movement that seeks to transform society through community. How will we know when society has been transformed?

When the divorce rate drops, poverty levels drop, the crime rate drops, the teen suicide rate drops … family values go up, spiritual renewal goes up, reformation in our churches go up, and fruits of the Spirit are visible with the human eye.

As you visit this web site, we want to help you move people from being a seeker of Christ … to being a student in Christ … to becoming a servant for Christ … and, ultimately, to becoming a shepherd with Christ. Our desire is to help you incubate an unlimited harvest of leadership—no matter what-sized church you serve.

Does that excite you? Are you able to catch a vision for how your city might be transformed as a result of what happens inside and outside your small group ministry?
